Politics: Welcome to the Presidential Bunker

So being an American citizen in a Political Science class with a politically-minded roommate, it is nearly impossible to ignore the American political environment, especially the recent election of Barack Obama to the presidency. Mm'kay. I'm going to start in this heading what I wanted to start in the NR heading: only instead of codifying my religious beliefs, I'm laying out my political ideas.

But first: President Obama. My roommate's a Republican, and I'm a libertarian, so this is bad news to us both. I hadn't done much research on the guy, so I get to trust my roommate's fevered ranting on the ignorance of the populace, especially the young vote he apparently got. Leading up to the election, I've heard comparisons of Obama to FDR, as well as (mostly sarcastic) parallels between his life and the Anti-Christ, which I think is interesting, if not a bit rude.

Personally, what I don't like about Obama is what I like about McCain, which is to say not much. I just don't know. The ideals attached to the Obama name that I've heard are socialized healthcare (which I'm a little for, but I'm pretty sure it'll never be done right), redistribution of wealth (which is an alright idea, but you're bound to piss off more people than you help out), and over all, an expansion of government. I don't like government getting in people's business; a government exists to keep the peace, and if some of the recent arguments are really a disturbance of the peace, there's a problem. But that's another show.

Onto the title of this entry. I'm sure that many people were angered with this outcome, but I'm sure many people would be angered either way. It's what happens in America. Anyway, I'm sure that within six months, there will be at least two assassination attempts on Mr. Obama's life. (Hell, there's been at least one.) Consequently, we won't be seeing much of him during his term. He'll need to keep to his Presidential Bunker to keep his life safe. But that's my cynic talking.
